The Flyers sign Michael Bunting

The Philadelphia Flyers brought in Michael Bunting as a new spark plug for their fourth line, with the potential to add physicality and a scrappy edge. Bunting has played for five other teams in his NHL career, and he has always been a glue guy and can also be a sneaky goal scorer on the bottom line. With the Flyers bringing in Bunting, that could mean one of the younger guys like Alex Bump either gets a bump down to the fourth line or he gets called down altogether soon.
Bunting was also teammates with current Flyers goal-center Joseph Woll, who has had a great start to the season, and Michael has also been to the playoffs five times in his NHL career with Carolina, Dallas, and Toronto. But will make his Flyers debut on Thursday as Philly looks to bounce back and get their first win of the year. With Coach Rick Tocchet looking to make some changes, he is hoping Bunting can be the spark to get them back on the right track.
Bunting brings playoff experience and grit to a team that has lacked an identity early this season. He is also a very good defensive forward, which is something the Flyers are lacking. Along with that, Bunting is not afraid to fight for his team.
He will be in search of a fresh start in Philly after only tallying 2 points in 13 games with the Dallas Stars last season, and a rough +/- of -7.
It is possible this team is not done making moves if they don’t start winning, but management hopes this is a step towards the team getting back to winning ways. This is a low risk move that brings in a veteran looking for another shot.
