Not Exactly Fly Eagles Fly: Philly Scrapes Out a Close One Postgame 9/13

The Eagles won against the Commanders today 24-22 in a close, tough first game of the season. This team based off what I saw today didn't impress me whatsoever. The offensive line was very bad, and the defense looked very sloppy today. There was a lot of plays where I noticed a receiever would go through the middle for the route, then would cut and have a ton of space. The defense didn't look how they have before in the past. Acquiring a player like Tariq Woolen for example I thought would make their cornerback room incredibly elite with him being alongside Quinyon Mitchell & Cooper DeJean. Cooper DeJean had his worst performance as an Eagles in this game as well which was quite shocking considering the Commnders offense isn't all that great. Now obviously time will tell but at least based on the first game I'd find myself feeling discontent if I was an Eagles fan.

On the offensive side of the ball, I'd feel happy based on what we saw from guys like Devonta Smith, Dallas Goedert, Saquon Barkley, and even Dontayvion Wicks who not only looked fantastic, but I believe he will have a great season. Jalen Hurts slander still needs to be stopped, the guy can throw the ball and make plays when it's needed and once again, he doesn't lose. The offensive line on the other hand hasn't looked like how they were two years ago when they won the Super Bowl. Ever since Stoutland left I think the offensive line has been banged up here and there and they just don't look as good and as gritty as they were. I mean were talking about a time where the Eagles not only had the two best tackles in the NFL, but also had a pro bowl guard in Landon Dickerson, a pro bowl center in Cam Jurgens, and a guy who was unproven in Mekhi Becton who balled out.

Eagles fans shouldn't have to see Jalen Hurts dropback fifteen times a game. That's just not the way the Eagles have played for so long. If there's anyone to blame here, it's Kevin Patullo's lack of care, big ego, and selfishness that ruined the offense and made Stoutland leave the team last season. I understand that it's a rival game and rival games will always be tougher, but the Commanders roster especially on the defensive side of the ball doesn't move me that much to where they should have the stats that they did.

At the end of the day it's the 1st game of the season. They aren't enough games in to tell how they will be come playoffs.
