Today the Philadelphia Eagles announced that they were signing quarterback Joe Milton from the Dallas Cowboys’ practice squad to their active roster. This comes just a day after the team announced that starting quarterback Jalen Hurts was ruled out of this Sunday’s game vs the Carolina Panthers with a superficial blood clot. He has now been moved to injured reserve and will be there indefinitely. Milton, who is 26 years old out of the University of Tennessee, got drafted by the New England Patriots in the 6th round, 193rd overall in the 2024 NFL draft. The Eagles will be the third team in three seasons for him. During that span, he has thrown 53 passes. Last season, he was used by the Cowboys in 4 games and in those 4 games he went 15 of 24 for 183 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions.

Before the signing, the Eagles only had rookie quarterback Cole Payton to back Tanner up. The Eagles decided to bring him in to have some depth to back up now starting quarterback Tanner McKee.

Milton will need some time to get used to the Eagles’ playbook before he potentially hears his name called but nevertheless it does give the Eagles a good quarterback who can get the job done.
