Nick Nurse has suggested that LeBron James could spend some time at the five this season as the Philadelphia 76ers adjust following Ariel Hukporti’s season-ending Achilles injury. With Philadelphia needing options behind Joel Embiid, LeBron could help fill those minutes in smaller lineups.

Offensively, the idea has potential. LeBron’s passing ability could help the Sixers create open shots, while playing him at center would allow Nurse to surround him with more perimeter players. Those groups could push the pace and force opposing big men to defend farther from the basket.

The biggest concerns would come defensively. LeBron would have to handle larger centers, help protect the rim, and take on more rebounding responsibility. That could become physically demanding if Philadelphia relied on those lineups too often.

Personally, I think it could work in short stretches against the right opponents. LeBron at center gives Nurse another option, but the Sixers would need to choose those moments carefully. It could be a useful adjustment when Embiid rests, especially against teams that also play smaller lineups.
