GAMEDAY! Sixers VS Knicks Preview

The Philadelphia 76ers open their 2026–27 NBA season tonight against the defending champion New York Knicks in a highly anticipated Eastern Conference showdown at Madison Square Garden. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET, with the game airing on NBC and Peacock.

For Philadelphia, this matchup represents an opportunity to turn the page and introduce a dramatically revamped roster. The Sixers will feature a star-studded starting lineup of Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, Jaylen Brown, LeBron James and rookie VJ Edgecombe. The combination of Embiid’s interior presence, Maxey’s speed, Brown’s scoring ability and James’s playmaking gives Philadelphia enormous potential, provided the new group can develop chemistry quickly.

Standing in their way are the reigning NBA champions, led by Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, Mikal Bridges and OG Anunoby. New York will celebrate its championship with a banner-raising ceremony before attempting to defend its home court. The Knicks’ established chemistry and postseason confidence could give them an early advantage against a Philadelphia team still learning to play together.

Health and depth will also be important factors for the Sixers, who enter opening night with several reserve players dealing with injuries. Keeping Embiid healthy and controlling the boards will be especially important against New York’s physical frontcourt. The team's offensive chemistry will also be a very important to watch with the star studded starting 5 on the court.

Ultimately, tonight’s contest offers an early test of Philadelphia’s championship ambitions. A victory would send a strong message to the Eastern Conference, while the Knicks will be eager to begin their title defense with a statement win on their home floor at The Garden.
