The Phils got a nice start from rookie Andrew Painter and a scoreless inning from fellow rookie Alex McFarlane on Thursday night.
That was not enough, as the offense fell apart yet again.
On top of that, Luis Arraez got hurt
In the sixth inning, while attempting to evade a tag at first base, Arraez hurt his left ankle, forcing him to leave the game. His condition didn't appear to be great to say the least, but there was no quick update. As he walked off the field, team athletic trainers had to help him off. The timing of Arraez's injury is not ideal, but the Phillies received encouraging news on Thursday regarding Jesus Luzardo. The lefty, who is on the injured list due to shoulder stiff, threw a bullpen session and may be ready for the first round of the playoffs that start on Tuesday.
Rookie Andrew Painter gave the Phillies a strong start, and fellow rookie Alex McFarlane pitched a shutout inning. Reliever Jose Alvarado gave up a walk and two singles to the first three hitters in the eighth inning, tying the game at one. In the end, all three scored, giving the Brewers a 4-1 advantage. The 37,177 fans, who had come to watch the Phillies hopefully get within one game of a postseason berth, starting booing. In the ninth inning, the Brewers scored another run. Morel boos ensued.
The Phillies play the Rays next in a series that will decide their playoff hopes tomorrow.
