SCHWARBER GRANDSLAM POWERS PHILLIES COMEBACK 9/9/26 PHILLIES POSTGAME

Updated: Sep 11
The Phillies looked dead in the water tonight.
Twice.
Yet after an incredible 408 foot grandslam to right, the Phillies came back 11-7 to
tie the series up against the Astros. The Phillies needed a good start to this game from Chirstopher Sanchez after a gritty 3 earned run outing in order to avoid the same fate Andrew Painter gave the team on Tuesday night. Unfortunately, that was not the start we got. Sanchez was wacked around for 10 hits, including three doubles and a pair of two-run home runs, in six innings. The offense had his back in the 3rd inning though, after
Bryce Harper brought in Bryan De La Cruz and Trea Turner to tie the game up 4-4 in the 3rd inning. “All credit to the offense,” Sanchez said. “I want to thank them for having my back tonight. It’s all on them tonight.” Things went south again almost immediately though as Sanchez gave up a two-run home run to Cam Smith and the Astros regained the lead 6-4 in the fourth.
Then the bats went to work again. A homer in the 5th from Turner ( 2nd in 2 days) , a pitch hit RBI single from Edmundo Sosa and bases loaded walk from De La Cruz set the tone for Kyle Schwarber. On a full count Schwarber unloaded, hitting his league leading 44th homer of the year to right, to give the Phils 11 runs and put them up for good.
The homer was his 28th homer at CBP this year and 1 away from tying Ryan Howard’s 29 in a season when he won NL MVP in 2006. The Astros did put 1 more across but ultimately Jhoan Duran shut Houston down in the 9th inning to seal the win.
Zack Wheeler (12-5, 3.23 ERA, 163 SO) gets the start in game 3 of the series vs Christian Javier (2-5, 5.98 ERA, 50 SO)
